How to locate someone using Google Maps

In addition to helping you find your way around or even your car, Google Maps may also help other people locate you.

An often-overlooked feature of Maps allows you to share your current location with another person so they can see where you are in real time, even if you're moving, and then find you. The same capability can be used to allow a close friend or family member track your progress while you travel and be informed of your specific arrival time.

What's best? All of it is really easy to do. Knowing where to look is the key.

On your iOS or Android device, launch the Maps app.
Tap the blue dot that shows where you are right now, and then choose "Share location" from the menu that pops up. (If this is the first time you've used Maps for this reason, your phone may ask you to grant the app access to your contacts before you can proceed.)
Use the blue plus and minus buttons to extend or shorten the time as necessary after selecting the "1 hour" option if you want to broadcast your location for a specified period of time.

Choose "Until you turn this off" if you wish to broadcast your location with others indefinitely (or until you manually turn it off).
Choose the contact you wish to share your location with on Android from the list of suggested contacts, or choose a messaging app (such as Gmail or Messages) to send a private link. The URL can also be chosen to be copied to your system's clipboard, where it can then be pasted wherever you choose.
On an iPhone, tap "Select People" to select a contact, tap "Message" to send a private link to a recipient using your messaging app, or tap "More" to send a private link through an additional messaging service. Before proceeding, your phone might ask you to provide Maps continuous access to your location.
Instead of sending a link through an external app, sharing your position within Maps itself allows you to select a contact, who will then receive a notification on their phone. Additionally, an emblem for you and the person you're sharing with will appear on top when you choose "Location sharing" in Maps' side menu. You can stop sharing, share your location again, or ask the person to share their location with you by selecting the individual's icon on the screen.
