The French city made contributions to scientific advancements in addition to the numerous tales that have added to the legend of Paris. The earliest photograph of a human being was really taken in Paris. Photographed in Paris in 1838, this masterpiece is ascribed to Louis Daguerre.

Following his collaboration with Joseph Nicephore Niepce, a French engineer widely regarded as the father of photography, Louis Daguerre carried on with his studies and endeavored to further the technique, focusing particularly on the fixation of the picture and the reduction of exposure time.

His work will experience significant advancements starting in 1835, culminating in the creation of the daguerreotype in 1839, the first commercially viable photographic process that France will acquire the following year.

The daguerreotype improved Niepce's discoveries since it allowed for image stabilization after only around 15 minutes of exposure as opposed to several hours for earlier techniques.
