KINDS OF COW limousine

A breed of beef cattle with a lot of muscle called a "Limousin" originated in France's Marche and Limousin regions. In France, the breed is referred as as limousine. In the 1960s, France began to export large quantities of limousins, which are presently distributed in about 70 nations. Although international breeders have now created polled (hornless) and black Limousins, they still have a distinctive lighter wheat to darker golden-red coloring and horns.

Around 200 years ago, interest in Limousins as a source of premium meat began to grow after they were initially primarily used as draft animals. In order to maintain the breed's purity and advancement, the first Limousin herd book was then established in France in 1886. Only animals that met a rigidly enforced breed standard were recorded and bred in this book.

Due to their low birth weights (easier calving), above-average dressing percentages (ratios of carcase to live weight) and yields (ratios of meat to carcase), high feed conversion efficiency, and capacity to produce lean, tender meat, limousins have gained popularity. According to a big cross-breed study, Limousin cattle transformed grain into marketable meat more quickly and efficiently than popular British breeds and slightly quicker than other popular continental European cattle breeds.

In contrast, the other cattle breeds generated proportionally more low-cost waste and byproducts, which caused their live weight to increase more quickly than Limousins' did. Because they can increase the output and feed conversion efficiency of British breeds like Angus, Hereford, and Shorthorn cattle, which produce meat with more fat and marbling, limousins are especially preferred for crossbreeding.

The coloring of the majority of Limousin cattle ranges from light wheat to darker golden-red. Through cross-breeding and grading up from other breeds of cattle, additional colour, primarily black, has been generated. Through cross breeding, additional features, such as polled (a genetic lack of horns), have been added in addition to changing natural colour.
